Khan eyes world title after win
Amir Khan is looking for a world title shot after demolishing Martin Kristjansen in one of his toughest fights yet.
The 21-year-old is itching to take on WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell after stopping the tough Dane in the seventh round of the elminator fight in Bolton.
The undefeated former Olympic silver medallist has made a habit of steamrollering opponents in front of the adoring home crowd.
The last time Khan fought in Bolton he disposed of Graham Earl in 70 seconds.
But Kristjansen's useful counter-punching proved a sterner test, with unofficial scorecards giving the 30-year-old at least one round.
Khan cut short his 17th professional test when he turned up the heat in the seventh of twelve rounds.
After bullying the lighter man around the ring Khan dropped him in the corner but was lucky not to have a penalty point deducted for continuing to punch after Kristjansen fell to his knees.
After a telling-off from the referee Khan continued to rain blows on the Dane, flooring him again seconds later to force a stoppage.
Speaking after the fight, Khan praised his opponent, saying: "He was very awkward. This guy came to Bolton to win, you know, to upset Amir Khan."
But he denied Kristjansen had him worried in the earlier rounds, saying: "I think I was winning every round. I was comfortable in there. I was picking my shots."
His promoter Frank Warren, who had hinted Khan would be ready for a world title fight if he performed, said it would be up to the WBO to give the green light to a clash with Campbell.
