Alan Shearer has denied suggestions that he could become Newcastle manager when a takeover is complete.

Former Wimbledon boss Joe Kinnear was installed as the club's temporary manager on Friday and he revealed a group hoping to buy the club from Mike Ashley are planning to appoint Kevin Keegan and Shearer. However, the legendary striker insisted he has not held talks about taking the job.

"I do not know where that has come from at all" - Alan Shearer

He said: "There is no truth in that whatsoever. I don't know where that has come from at all."

Meanwhile, the Football Association have confirmed Kinnear must watch Newcastle's next game from the stands because he has two matches left on a touchline ban he was served four years ago when he was in charge of Nottingham Forest.

An FA spokesman said: "It is a two-match suspension which is carried over from when he left his position at Nottingham Forest to when he started any further employment, in this case at Newcastle United.

"Newcastle's next game at Everton will be the second of the two."
