Sir Alex Ferguson could face a touchline ban after admitting a Football Association charge of using abusive and/or insulting words to a match official.

The Manchester United manager confronted referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time during the 1-0 defeat at Bolton on November 24.

Reports claim Ferguson was unhappy at tackles that went unpunished.

After the game, Ferguson said: "Some referees don't like it. They don't like the truth but I just told him how bad he was in the first-half."

Clattenburg sent Ferguson to the stands and he watched the second half of the game from the directors' box.

Ferguson has not requested a personal hearing and a regulatory commission will consider the charge in due course.
