Middlesbrough striker Mido is likely to miss the Carling Cup tie against Manchester United.
The Egypt international picked up a groin strain while warming up before the Premier League game against Sunderland on Saturday.
"I would not think Mido would be available" - Gareth Southgate
Striker Jeremie Aliadiere and winger Adam Johnson will both face fitness tests.
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate said: "We're going to have to check Adam and Jeremie before the game, they both picked up injuries on Saturday.
"Jeremie has a kick on the Achilles. We're going to have a look to see if he'll be available or not and Adam got a kick as well.
"I wouldn't think Mido would be available. Apart from that, everybody is fine."
