Beckham rated 50/50 to face Chelsea

David Beckham is rated as having only a '50/50' chance of being fit to line up for Los Angeles Galaxy for the first time against Chelsea in Saturday's friendly.

The Major League Soccer side's coach Frank Yallop revealed the former England captain's ankle injury after seeing his men go down 3-0 at the hands of Mexico's Tigres UANL.

"It's probably 50/50. He's still sore but we're hoping it's just going to ease off a little bit so he'll be okay" - LA Galaxy boss Frank Yallop

He said: "It's probably 50/50. He's still sore but we're hoping it's just going to ease off a little bit so he'll be okay.

"He got a lot of work done today, it feels a bit better and we'll wait until Friday to see how it's really feeling. But it does feel better and that's the promising thing."

Beckham was only able to play a limited part in his first training session with his new club on Monday due to his ankle problem.

The 32-year-old midfield star picked up the injury during last month's Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia and aggravated it as he helped Real Madrid to the Spanish league title.

The long flight from London to LA last week did not help matters as it caused Beckham's ankle to swell up.

Yallop says it will be up to Beckham if he makes a promotional visit to Denver on behalf of Major League Soccer commissioner Dan Garber.
