Prospective owner Thaksin Shinawatra hopes to unveil former England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson as Manchester City's new manager next week.

The 59-year-old Swede has been out of work since his five-and-a-half-year England reign came to an end last summer.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is believed to have agreed in principle a three-year contract with Manchester City worth around £2.5 million a year

But he is believed to have agreed in principle a three-year contract worth around £2.5 million a year.

And he has already sounded out Sweden's number two Roland Andersson to be his assistant should he succeed Stuart Pearce at Eastlands.

However, everything hinges on Thaksin acquiring a 75 per cent stake in the blue half of Manchester and taking the club into private ownership.

It is only then that City say they will make an announcement concerning their managerial vacancy.

Last week the board recommended the former Thai prime minister's £81.6 million takeover bid to shareholders and the offer document has now been sent out.

He has promised that around £50 million will be available to City's new manager to turn the club's fortunes around.
