Portsmouth and Liverpool have agreed a fee for England striker Peter Crouch.

Liverpool have given Crouch permission to hold talks with the Fratton Park club after three years at Anfield.

"We have reached a verbal agreement with Portsmouth" - Liverpool spokesman

A Liverpool spokesman said: "We have reached a verbal agreement with Portsmouth and have given them permission to speak with Peter."

Crouch spent eight months at Fratton Park in 2001 and 2002, scoring 19 goals in 39 games before joining Aston Villa.

Portsmouth defender Linvoy Primus said: "I remember him first time around and he was always destined to go on and do well.

"I'd love to play with him again. It's a case of just making sure that if he does sign, I can be in that team to play with him."
