Hannah Montana fever hits US

Hannah Montana mania has already conquered TV, and now the Disney sensation is proving a smash hit at theatres.

By day Hannah, played by Miley Cyrus - the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus - is an average teenager, but by night she's a famous pop singer.

In its opening weekend the film raked in a whopping $31 million

The Hannah Montana brand has evolved from being a TV series to include multi-platinum albums and stage shows.

Hordes of teens, and their parents, are flocking to movie cinemas across the US to see Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, a 3D film version of the sell-out tour.

The musical documentary was supposed to run for just one week, but has been such a success at the box office its run has been extended indefinitely.

In its opening weekend the film raked in a whopping $31 million (£16m).
