Mosley 'to sue' after privacy win
Formula One boss Max Mosley says he intends to sue the News of the World for libel.
Mr Mosley won record privacy damages against the newspaper but says he plans to launch a separate defamation action and sue media organisations in France, Germany and Italy that published photographs without his consent.
High Court judge Mr Justice Eady awarded him £60,000 for the "probably unprecedented" distress and indignity he suffered over the News of the World's "sick Nazi orgy" story.
The newspaper printed photographs of the 68-year-old taking part in sadomasochistic activities with five women and claimed the session had a Nazi theme.
Mr Mosley, president of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, said the role-play at a rented Chelsea basement was harmless, consensual and private, with no Nazi overtones.
He said: "I am the victim of an unlawful act by someone else in the same way as I would be if I was mugged."
Mr Mosley said he was considering setting up a legal fund to help other people who felt newspapers had breached their privacy.
"I feel very strongly that some newspapers literally ruin people's lives and more has to be done to stop this," he said.
News of the World editor Colin Myler said he still believed the story was one of "legitimate public interest and one that I believe was legitimately published" and that it was "absolutely not true" that the newspaper had fabricated the Nazi aspect.
Writing in the newspaper, former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey said: "A dangerous precedent has been set this week in the victory of Max Mosley over the press.
"The first major victim is free speech itself. Without public debate or democratic scrutiny the courts have created a wholly new privacy law."
He added: "As a Christian leader, I am deeply sad that public morality is the second victim of this legal judgment.
"Unspeakable and indecent behaviour, whether in public or in private, is no longer significant under this ruling."
