Model Jodie Kidd is backing a new campaign for smokers to wear commitment rings to signal their desire to quit.

The 30-year-old stopped smoking last year in a bid to improve her health.

"I finally gave up last year after two attempts. I love playing sport and smoking left me feeling totally unfit" - Jodie Kidd

She said: "I finally gave up last year after two attempts. I love playing sport and smoking left me feeling totally unfit. I'd be walking around the golf course with a cigarette and it just felt wrong so I decided to do something about it.

"I went from smoking a packet a day to nothing at all but my friends and family helped me a lot. One of the main benefits is fresher clothes, hair, breath and brighter skin, which are all really important in my job. I also feel much fitter, happier and healthier."

Kidd said she hopes the rings, which were developed with Boots, will encourage more people to quit ahead of the July 1 ban.

Ruth Bosworth, director of services at Quit, said: "If you plan to stop smoking, you can wear the ring to signal your intent to friends, family and co-workers."
