Spike Lee honoured in LA

Spike Lee has been honoured for his career in the entertainment industry at a star-studded Los Angeles event.

John Singleton, Rosie Perez, Damon Wayans and Patti Austin celebrated the director as he received the 6th Annual Behind The Lens Award.

Lee has earned two Oscar nominations and is known for films such as Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X and Inside Man

Lee, who's also known as a writer, producer and actor, said: "I think that most importantly, this award is just not for one particular film. It's for the body of work we've done from 1986's She's Gotta Have It to 2008."

He has earned two Oscar nominations and is known for films such as Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X and Inside Man.

Director John Singleton described Lee as an extraordinary film-maker who kickstarted the careers of many of his peers.

He said: "I think that a lot of people don't realise that if it wasn't for Spike, there is a whole lot of people in this business that wouldn't be working. He established a whole lot of careers in front of and behind the cameras."
