Five US soldiers killed in Iraq

Four US soldiers and a marine have been killed in separate attacks in Iraq.

The US military said two soldiers and the marine were killed in western Anbar province.

Around 3,580 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, compared with 156 British forces

Another was killed by small arms fire in southern Baghdad.

The others were killed by gunfire that followed a roadside bomb attack on a patrol in western Baghdad. Two Iraqi policemen were also wounded in that attack.

June was costly for US forces, with 101 soldiers and marines killed. That makes the April-June quarter the bloodiest since the allied invasion in 2003.

Around 3,580 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, compared with 156 British forces. As many as 80,000 Iraqis have lost their lives.
