Newcastle's interim manager Joe Kinnear has hit out at the press in an incredible press conference.

Kinnear gave his players a day off on Monday to hold meetings with his coaching staff on his first day in charge, but he felt the reports hinted the players left the training ground when he arrived.

"Get off my back and let me get on with my job" - Joe Kinnear

Kinnear swore more than 50 times during the press conference and told reporters he will not speak to them again while he is in charge.

He said: "I will stand up and fight for myself in any corner. You're not going to frighten me in any manner.

"Whatever you do, or whatever headlines you run, you're not going to embarrass me.

"I'm not going to stand for it. I've come up here for a simple chance to prove myself. Get off my back and let me get on with my job. That's all I ask."

Newcastle have lost their last five games in all competitions but Kevin Keegan is likely to return as manager later this year when Mike Ashley sells the club.
