Clooney and Paltrow hail Madonna

A-listers Gwyneth Paltrow and George Clooney have paid tribute to Madonna as the superstar turns 50.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna is credited as a singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, actress, documentary-maker and author.

It was her third release, Holiday, which launched Madonna as an international star.

In recent years Madonna has had to face rumours of marriage difficulties with film director husband Guy Ritchie, as well as controversy over her adoption of Malawian child David Banda.

According to Guinness World Records, Madonna is the most successful female solo artist, selling around 120 million albums and 40 million singles - a combined total more than any other female.

The super-fit singer is now preparing for her Sticky And Sweet world tour.
