Britney 'working on new album'
Pop star Britney Spears is working on a new album as she attempts to rebound from a series of personal crises.
Her manager, Larry Rudolph, and label, Jive Records, said in a statement that Spears, 26, "is spending her summer in the recording studio, working on a brand new album". Her last CD, Blackout, debuted at No 2 in the US but quickly slid down the charts.
The statement said: "She's working with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters and we're very excited about what she's accomplished so far. No album release date has been confirmed yet."
The mother-of-two has spent much of the past 18 months in the headlines for an ugly divorce, losing custody of her sons, treatment in rehab and erratic behaviour like shaving her head and attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella.
Spears divorced Kevin Federline, 30, last summer after two years of marriage. The couple have been in mediation talks over custody of their children - Sean Preston, who is two-and-a-half, and 22-month-old Jayden James.
Meanwhile, her father Jamie has taken over management of her personal and business affairs.
