Lennon lyrics go under the hammer
The handwritten lyrics of John Lennon's Give Peace A Chance will be sold at Christie's auction house.
The former Beatle gave the lyrics - which had been scribbled on to a piece of paper -to teenage fan Gail Renard during one of his famous 'bed-in' peace protests with his wife Yoko Ono in a Montreal hotel room in 1969.
The couple's 'bed-in' lasted eight days and followed a similar protest in Amsterdam.
The piece is expected to attract bids of £200,000 upwards. The song reached number 14 in the US charts and was kept off the top slot in the UK by The Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Women.
A Christie's spokesman said they expected the auction to generate a huge amount of interest.
The sale will take place on July 10 in South Kensington, London.
