Monty Python creator Eric Idle has taken his smash-hit musical Spamalot to Las Vegas.

The comedy is making its new home at the Wynn Las Vegas resort, following its success on Broadway and London's West End.

The musical is based on the cult 1975 Python film Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The musical is based on the cult 1975 Python film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which was written by Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.

When asked why he brought the show to Vegas, Idle joked: ""The money. Are you kidding? Why bring it to Vegas? It's a holiday place. People come here on holiday. So there's a really jolly mood.

"And people, I don't think there are many shows that make them laugh. There's French people all over the place. Acrobats are swinging from the ceiling. But there's not a lot to make them laugh about stand-up comedy."

Spamalot debuted in Chicago before transferring to Broadway in 2005. It won three Tony Awards, including best musical.
