TV's favourite duo Ant and Dec surprised viewers when they took over a weather broadcast live on air.

The pair took it in turns to present the GMTV forecasts, taking over from regular weather host Clare Nasir.

"It's going to be nice around this point around Newcastle, particularly in one house, because it's my mam's birthday. Happy Birthday mam" - Ant McPartlin

The presenters tried to keep a straight face in front of the cameras but couldn't hold out for too long.

Dec, 32, sailed through his report at 7.25am, exclaiming: "I'm quite enjoying this."

And Ant, 31, managed to squeeze in a personal message to his mother, while he pointed to the map.

He told viewers: "It's going to be nice around this point around Newcastle, particularly in one house, because it's my mam's birthday. Happy Birthday mam."

The Geordie pair were on the ITV1 programme to practise for the latest challenge on their show Saturday Night Takeaway.

Ant and Dec will be pitted against each other to see who has the best weather-presenting skills.
