Coach Frank Yallop remained upbeat as David Beckham resumed his familiar starting position since signing for LA Galaxy - on the sidelines.

But Yallop feels Beckham's presence represents a big step forward in his adjustment to life in the Major League Soccer.

The former England captain attended Yallop's dressing room team talk before the game and watched the game from the Galaxy bench.

Yallop revealed that Beckham even followed him across the pitch at full time to remonstrate with match referee Courtney Campbell as Chivas recorded a 2-1 win in front of 37,337 mostly Chivas fans.

"He definitely wanted to come to the game and be on the bench and be involved in the dressing room so that's obviously very important to us."

Having made his debut as a 78th minute substitute on July 21 in a friendly against Chelsea, the ankle injury he suffered on England duty against Estonia on June 6 has kept him out of two matches since in the inaugural SuperLiga competition between US and Mexican teams.
