Literary fans to become e-bookworms?

It is smaller than a hardback and has enough power to read War and Peace five times, but can the e-book revolutionise reading?

The Sony Reader is roughly the size of a paperback but can store up to 160 average length novels and hits the UK market on Thursday retailing at £199.

Many of the main publishing houses are offering downloadable versions of famous titles by leading authors in a bid to attract the iPod generation.

Toby Young, who wrote How To Lose Friends And Alienate People, said: "The great thing about electronic books is that in the long run they will benefit writers, creating an easier way to enable first-time authors to get their work in front of the public. That will be a revolutionary change."
