Southee misses training

Updated 17.22 Wed May 21 2008

New Zealand's teenage bowler Tim Southee missed the team's net session at Old Trafford as he is suffering from a bug.

The seamer did not claim any wickets in the drawn first Test at Lord's and the Kiwis' coach John Bracewell has revealed Southee has not trained for two days.

"New Zealanders still relish this as the tour to be on" - John Bracewell

New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum has a swollen forearm as a result of a powerful blow from a ball from Stuart Broad in the first match.

Bracewell is hoping the excitement among his young squad will help them in Manchester.

He said: "The adventure of England in itself still has that traditional tag as the tour of choice.

"New Zealanders still relish this as the tour to be on, so it is tough to get a place on the coach via performances in our domestic season."

The second Test in the three-match series begins on Friday.
