Chambers set to challenge Olympic ban
Lawyers representing Dwain Chambers are to mount a legal challenge in the High Court to his lifetime suspension for using banned steroids to enable him to compete in the Beijing Olympics.
After taking a vital step towards his ambition to compete in the Games by twice bettering the 100 metres 'A' qualifing time in Biberach an der Reiss, Germany, Chambers is not prepared to say when he expects the legal battle to get under way.
The 30-year-old Londoner again insisted it is for his lawyers and not him to take the necessary court action to lift the ban enabling him to gain clearance and compete in Beijing.
Nick Collins, Chambers' solicitor, said: "The legal papers are presently with his barrister and we are anticipating serving them next week."
Currently Chambers, along with others who have committed anti-doping violations, is prevented by a British Olympic Association (BOA) bylaw from ever again representing Great Britain at any future Games but he insisted he will be concentrating on the track.
Twice in perfect conditions, Chambers decimated the Beijing qualifying time of 10.21 seconds with performances of 10.14 seconds in his heat and then a dazzling 10.06 in the final.
He said: "Now I've got the qualifier, I've just got to continue with my role which is competing and let the lawyers do their part.
"I've matured a lot and I'd like to go on record in saying that I've made amends for my mistakes a long time ago, and now I'm proving that I can do it clean."
Chambers is now joint top of the British rankings with Tyrone Edgar - and the two are set to go head-to-head at the upcoming Olympic trials in Birmingham.
