Man dead after level crossing smash
A man has died after the car he was in was hit by a train on a level crossing, police said.
The collision took place at an 'automatic half barrier crossing' at Hatton, Derbyshire.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The train, the 1528 London Midlands Service from Derby to Crewe, with 54 passengers on board, would have been travelling around 65 to 70 miles per hour at the time of the incident.
"One female passenger on the train was treated at the scene for what would appear to be minor neck and back injuries."
Enquiries into the crash are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
Due to franchise changes, the train involved was an East Midlands Trains service manned by London Midland employees.
There were no injuries among the staff and the train was taken out of service following the incident.
