Meanwhile, Sven-Goran Eriksson has continued his summer spending spree by signing Fiorentina striker Valeri Bojinov, subject to a work permit.

Manchester City have agreed to pay an undisclosed fee for the 21-year-old Bulgaria international, who has signed a four-year contract.

And Eriksson is refusing to rule out further purchases, telling reporters: "I never speak about rumours. If you wait three or four days, you will know.

"My dream is to have eight defenders, eight midfielders and four strikers. That is what I am working towards and hopefully, by the time I have finished, that is what I will have."

Meanwhile, Birmingham City have completed the signing of Aston Villa defender Liam Ridgewell in a £2 million deal.
