The England international's contract with Tottenham expires in 2009 and it has been suggested manager Juande Ramos will allow him to leave as the club has three other experienced strikers.

Villa have a small squad and manager Martin O'Neill is expected to make signings during the transfer window.
It has been reported Defoe held talks at Villa's training ground.
A spokesman for Aston Villa said he "could neither confirm or deny" the report.
Defoe would follow O'Neill's recent policy of signing young, English players as Nigel Reo-Coker, Ashley Young and Curtis Davies have all joined Villa since he took charge.
