Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z have reportedly obtained a marriage license in New York.

According to reports in the US, the couple took out the license, which is valid for 60 days, on April 1.

A source was quoted on a website as saying that they have told friends they would like to wed in May after Jay-Z finishes his current tour with singer Mary J Blige.

Another paper also reported that while Beyoncé was out of town filming for her new movie, the rapper met up with her younger sister, Solange, to discuss proposing to the singer and asking for her father's consent.

Beyoncé 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been together since 2002 and rumours of marriage have run rife ever since.

The pair are known for not discussing their relationship publicly.
