Milan want Shevchenko for free
European champions Milan are hoping Roman Abramovich will cut his losses and let Andriy Shevchenko leave.
Shevchenko's agent has confirmed Milan would be interested in bringing the Ukraine international back to Italy on loan.
But Milan's vice president Adriano Galliani does not want to pay a penny to complete the transfer.
Shevchenko's representative Fabio Parisi said: "Galliani has always been very clear when stating that the deal can only be done if Chelsea allow Milan to have the player as a free loan.
"If Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will give his okay then I think the deal could be done."
But Abramovich may be reluctant to give away a player who cost him £30 million in 2006 and has only scored 21 goals in 72 games for the club.
