Snow falls across Britain
Parts of Britain woke up to several inches of snow after a heavy fall overnight.
The flurries began in north-east England, Manchester and north Wales but later spread south and there was heavy snow in central London.
The snow forced the closure of a runway at Heathrow for a while, adding to the recent problems at the airport.
The Met Office issued a number of flash warnings of severe or extreme weather, revealing an 80 per cent chance of heavy snow and widespread icy roads across Northern Ireland, north Wales and north-west England.
There is also a strong possibility of heavy snow in the West Midlands, south-west and south-east England.
However, most of the snow is expected to melt by the afternoon.
