England have fined several members of their World Cup squad following a breach of team discipline.

A statement gave no details on the number of players involved or the nature of the breach after they went on a night out immediately after England's six-wicket defeat to New Zealand in their opening Group C match.

"The England team management today announced that a number of England players have been fined by head coach Duncan Fletcher" - England statement

The statement added: "The England team management today announced that a number of England players have been fined by head coach Duncan Fletcher.

"The decision followed a team meeting at noon today which was attended by players and management."

Earlier, Fletcher said the team had been given the day off because of the tough training sessions so far on tour and to keep them out of the sun.

England are due to play their next match of their World Cup campaign against Canada in the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia on Sunday.
