Murray adds to US Open preparations
Andrew Murray is to bolster his preparations for the US Open by playing in the ATP Tour event in New Haven.
Britain's top tennis player is set to make his comeback from the wrist injury which forced him to pull out of the French Open and Wimbledon at next week's Montreal Masters.
And having been handed a rare wildcard place for New Haven two weeks later, Murray has accepted the offer having been sidelined since he was injured in May.
The 20-year-old from Dunblane said: "I thought it would be a good idea to play another tournament before the US Open, and the Pilot Pen is the perfect opportunity."
The US Open begins at Flushing Meadows on August 27 and New Haven tournament organiser Anne Worcester said: "We made an exception.
"Andy Murray is a member of this elite gang of youngsters, like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who are poised to take over the game."
Meanwhile, British number two Tim Henman and doubles partner Mahesh Bhupathi have crashed out of the men's doubles quarter-finals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington.
Henman, who lost to US wildcard John Isner in the first round of the singles, and Bhupathi were beaten 6-4 7-5 by Australian Paul Hanley and Kevin Ulyett of Zimbabwe.
