Record signing Dimitar Berbatov is hopeful of being fit for United in their Manchester derby duel with City at Eastlands.

The £30.75million Bulgarian has missed the Red Devils' last two games with a hamstring injury picked up on international duty but has returned to training this week, leaving Sir Alex Ferguson to decide whether to put him straight back into his starting line-up.

Paul Scholes (knee) is still out but Gary Neville (groin) could be available after missing the last fortnight.

Ferguson has also been buoyed by the news that a work permit has been granted for young Serbian winger Zoran Tosic.

The Scot attended a hearing for the 21-year-old this morning and emerged with positive news, meaning Tosic will sign from Partizan Belgrade in January.

United have not confirmed the fee they have agreed for Tosic, although they have been looking at the wide-man for some time.
