Sunderland manager Roy Keane was walking his dog when his team were promoted to the Premiership.

The former Manchester United captain received a text message while he was out with his pet Triggs, telling him that Crystal Palace had beaten Derby 2-0 and the Black Cats were back in the top flight along with Birmingham City.

"This has been my hardest and most difficult season in management" - Roy Keane

Keane said: "It's great news for the club. I am delighted for the players, who have done a fantastic job.

"I am also delighted for all the staff, who have played such a vital part, the fans, who have been tremendous in their support for the team and for the chairman Niall Quinn and the board, who have been a great support since I arrived at the club."

Both Sunderland and Birmingham have bounced back to the Premiership after one season in the Championship.

Blues boss Steve Bruce said: "It's fantastic to go back up but this has been my hardest and most difficult season in management."
