Fears have been raised about security at Birmingham airport after secret filming revealed serious lapses from workers.

Undercover filming showed bag checkers reading newspapers and other workers fast asleep.

The employees work for ICTS UK, a firm which is contracted out to carry out security.

At one point a manager is shown complaining about serious under staffing, saying: "We're cutting corners left right and centre. One day if the DFT [Department For Transport] are gonna be there, we're gonna be in trouble."

The DFT is now investigating and promise prompt action if required.

Already a senior American congressman is calling for US flights from Birmingham to be grounded, saying: "It absolutely should be stopped."

ICTS say they have 20 years of experience and are promising their own investigation.
