The spectacle strikes a close resemblance to a real boxing or mixed martial arts match as robots trade jabs, dodge punches and eventually knock out opponents with a crushing blow.

The tournament entrants were strictly limited to robots which can walk with two legs and they had to be designed and constructed from scratch by amateurs.

The purpose is to knock out the opponent three times or push them off the octagonal ring.

Two self-accidental slips are considered as one knock-down.

Robots exchanged punches for three-minute rounds and when a winner didn't emerge at the end of the round, a one minute extension round ensued.
