Robbie Fowler wants to fire Cardiff City into the Premier League after signing a two-year deal with the Bluebirds.

The 32-year-old former England striker, who left Liverpool at the end of last season, had been linked with Cardiff's Championship rivals Leicester City and Australian side Sydney FC.

"I have got a few good years left playing football. Hopefully, I can help everyone around Cardiff to get out of this division" - Robbie Fowler

But after talks with Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Dave Jones, Fowler has opted to move to Ninian Park.

Ridsdale believes Fowler's arrival in South Wales is "a major signing" for the club and the player himself said: "I am delighted with the way things have turned out.

"A few clubs came in, but a lot of people have said to me would I rather play with a team fighting relegation from the Premiership or a promotion-chasing team from the Championship. To me, it was a no-brainer.

"I have got a few good years left playing football. Hopefully, I can help everyone around Cardiff to get out of this division. I just want to play football, that's it."

Fowler joins former England winger Trevor Sinclair, Gavin Rae, Steven MacLean, Tony Capaldi and Michael Oakes in moving to Cardiff this summer.
