Dow Jones finishes on 14,000

US stocks ended higher with the Dow finishing above 14,000 for the first time and hitting a record close, on profits that beat expectations in the technology and industrial sectors.

Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 82.11 points, or 0.59 percent, to end unofficially at 14,000.33.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 6.90 points, or 0.45 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,553.07.

The Nasdaq Composite gained 20.55 points, or 0.76 percent, to close unofficially at 2,720.04, after earlier climbing to 2,724.74, its highest in six-and-a-half years.

Investors added a net $5.38 billion to US-based stock mutual funds in the week ending July 18, up from $1.83 billion in the prior week.

Funds investing mostly in domestic stocks took in a net $2.10 billion, reversing an outflow of $1.34 billion in the prior week while funds investing mostly in non-US stocks took in a net $3.28 billion, compared with $3.16 billion in the prior week.
