Haltemprice campaigning enters final day
Campaigning in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, triggered by the resignation of Tory David Davis, has entered its final day.
The former shadow home secretary resigned from the House of Commons over Government plans to hold terror suspects for up to 42 days without charge, saying it eroded civil liberties.
Later, Mr Davis will later host a debate on ancient British liberties and will be joined by Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews QC, Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti and 7/7 survivor Rachel North in the debate in East Yorkshire.
The Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats are not taking part but Mr Davis will face 25 other candidates in Thursday's by-election.
They include the well-known conspiracy theorist David Icke, Official Monster Raving Loony Party candidate Mad Cow-Girl, Miss Great Britain Gemma Garrett and rape law campaigner Jill Saward.
Among the other parties on the ballot paper is the Church of Militant Elvis Party and a representative of Make Politicians History.
