Karamanlis claims Greece victory

Greece's conservative Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has claimed victory in parliamentary elections.

He vowed to push on with key reforms.

"You gave us a clear mandate to continue with the reforms the country needs" - Costas Karamanlis

Mr Karamanlis said: "You gave us a clear mandate to continue with the reforms the country needs.

"I feel doubly responsible to be more effective and avoid mistakes."

With more than half of the votes counted, official results showed his ruling New Democracy party was leading, with the opposition socialists coming in second.
