Prime Minister travels to India
Gordon Brown has called for greater international cooperation in the fight against militant extremism during a brief visit in India.
The Prime Minister is pushing for India to be allowed to join the Financial Action Task Force, an intergovernmental body that works to stem money laundering and militant financing.
The task force currently consists of over 30 developed nations, with the exception of China, which was granted membership last year.
Brown added that he would like "greater contact between India and Britain in winning the battle of hearts and minds, in isolating extremist ideologues who try to poison young people."
He also praised India's part in negotiations at a December United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Bali and hoped the two countries would be able to play their part in securing a new climate deal.
Brown is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for official talks on Monday evening, host an entrepreneurship summit and launch a sports initiative between India and Britain on his one-and-a-half day stop in the Indian capital.
