Queen director leads Cannes panel

The Queen director Stephen Frears has been given the honour of jury president at this year's Cannes Festival.

He will be responsible for choosing the winner of the Palme d'Or - the highest prize given at the event.

But it won't be all fun and games, as he has to watch a whopping 22 films in only 12 days.

He said of the task: "It's horrific. Yes, absolutely. Really, it's only for the finest people in the land. It's very, very daunting.

"I don't know when you go to parties. I think seeing 22 films will take up all my time."

The film festival, in its 60th year, runs until May 27.
