Air passengers travelling through Heathrow's Terminal 5 are facing fresh misery as a combination of bad weather and baggage hitches forced more cancellations and delays.

British Airways said a total of 42 T5 flights had been cancelled today.

"There were a number of aircraft that were out of position which means that had a knock-on effect with the schedule. It is simply because of the weather" - BA spokesman

The airline also said that claims attributed to a security guard that 90 per cent of missing bags would never be reunited with their owners were "complete rubbish".

A BA spokesman added: "It is extremely rare for a bag to go missing for good. To say that nine in ten bags will be lost for ever is total nonsense."

The spokesman said the number of bags still to be got back to owners was now down to about 5,000.
