Thousands of hopefuls are expected apply to star in a new West End production of the musical Grease.

Wannabes who get through the initial auditions of ITV's Grease is the Word will be sent to a three-day boot camp.

Eight couples will then be chosen for the live television show, with one pair ultimately taking to the stage for the July opening of the production.

David Gest, who appeared on ITV's I'm A Celebrity last year, will join theatre producer David Ian on the judging panel, which will also include American choreographer Brian Friedman and West End star Sinitta.

Zoe Ball, who will co-present the programme when it starts in April said: "I remember seeing Grease for the first time when I was seven years old and I loved it.

"I learned all the songs by heart and I just wanted to be one of the pink ladies at Rydell High."
