Dettori banned for Irish Derby
A riding ban means that Frankie Dettori is unable to ride the Sheikh Mohammed-owned Boscobel in Sunday's Irish Derby at the Curragh.
The popular Italian jockey, who claimed his maiden victory in the Vodafone Derby at the start of the month, could have deferred his two-day whip ban he received at Sandown on June 15.
But his team failed to apply to the Horseracing Regulatory Authority by the deadline of 5pm on Monday.
Dettori's agent Ray Cochrane said: "Frankie could have ridden in both the Irish Derby and the Pretty Polly (on Saturday), but unfortunately we have missed the deadline. It is a real sickener."
The Mark Johnston-trained Boscobel was supplemented for the Curragh showpiece following his all-the-way win in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot last Friday.
