Derby put to the sword by Preston
Upsets were at a premium in the fourth round of the FA Cup with only Preston claiming a Premier League scalp.
The Coca-Cola Championship side travelled to top-flight strugglers Derby and booked their place in round five with a 4-1 win.
Karl Hawley broke the deadlock on 14 minutes and the lead was doubled for the Lancashire side by Simon Whaley on 33 minutes.
As half time approached, Hawley's second of the game virtually ended the contest.
Derby pulled one back ten minutes into the second half, but in the 90th minute Neil Mellor converted a penalty he earned to restore Preston's three-goal margin.
Meanwhile Newcastle's quest for silverware is on hold for at least another season after Arsenal secured a 3-0 win.
The Gunner's Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice to give his side a 3-0 win over Kevin Keegan's men at the Emirates and the scoring was completed by a Nicky Butt headed own goal.
Chelsea won 2-0 at Wigan thanks to second-half goals by Nicolas Anelka and Shaun Wright Phillips.
Wolves booked their place in the fifth round with a convincing 4-1 win over Championship rivals Watford at Vicarage Road.

League Two side Bury held managerless Southampton 71 minutes before Andrew Surman and Grzegorz Rasiak struck to put themselves in the hat for the next round.
