Rafael Nadal has won the French Open for the fourth year in a row, beating Roger Federer 6-1 6-3 6-0 in the final.

Nadal showed why he is the world's best player on clay as he controlled the rallies against the world number one, who has now lost three successive finals at Roland Garros.

Nadal made the perfect start, breaking Federer's serve in the first game of the match. Both players tried to test their opponent's backhand but Federer made several mistakes when he was given the chance to use his forehand.

Nadal broke serve again early in the second set but Federer seemed ready to fight back when he broke the Spaniard's serve soon after.

However, Nadal broke again in the eighth game of the set and Federer's confidence finally evaporated.

The Swiss lost all three of his first service games in the third set.

Nadal is the first player since Bjorn Borg to win the French Open four years in succession.

He is also the first player since Borg in 1980 to win the men's singles in Paris without dropping a set.
