Cadbury is to axe 700 jobs under restructuring plans, the firm has announced.

The company said in a statement it plans a phased closing of its Keynsham factory, near Bristol, from 2009 to 2010, affecting 500 staff.

The company said some production is to be transferred from Bournville to Poland

It also proposes moving some chocolate assortment production from its Bournville site, in Birmingham, to Poland in 2008, resulting in around 200 job losses.

The statement said changes are needed to achieve "greater supply chain efficiencies".

Cadbury said it hoped to achieve phased redundancies through voluntary means, adding that it was now entering detailed consultation with workers at both sites.

However, the Unite union's national officer Brian Revell said the firm is acting like a "private equity asset stripper."
