Police to headline rock festival
The Police have been confirmed as the headline act for the Isle of Wight Festival 2008.
The rockers will follow in the footsteps of the Rolling Stones, Muse and Snow Patrol, who topped the bill at this year's event.
Frontman Sting and his band will take to the stage on the last day of the event and have reportedly said it will be their only UK gig of the year.
Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings said: "It's a coup to get The Police for the festival. We're very happy to have the biggest tour of the last two years stopping by the Isle of Wight."
The Police, famous for hits Roxanne and Every Breath You Take, are currently touring Central and South America and will start 2008 with shows in Australia, New Zealand and Japan before arriving in Europe for dates in Denmark, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Norway, Belgium, Germany and the UK.
The event, soon to be in its seventh year, has previously boasted performances by The Who, David Bowie, REM and Coldplay.
Tickets for the festival, which runs from June 13 to 15, go on general sale at 9am on December 10.
