The Duchess of Cornwall is to have a hysterectomy operation.

It has been reported that Camilla, 59, will be admitted to a private hospital in London ahead of the procedure.

The Duchess will have to spend several days in recovery before being allowed to go home to rest for six weeks

The Duchess has just returned from a 10-day tour of the Gulf with her husband Prince Charles.

The royal couple also attended an extra date in Bosnia to mark St David's Day, making a total of five countries they visited on the whirlwind trip.

It is thought the operation will take place at the same private facility the Queen attended for her knee operation - the exclusive King Edward VII Hospital.

The Duchess will have to spend several days in recovery before being allowed to go home to rest for six weeks.

Clarence House has said that the operation is not cancer-related but refused to comment any further on her condition.

The operation is fairly common in the UK with around one in five women given a hysterectomy before the age of 60.
