Steve Sidwell has agreed to join Chelsea on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old's contract with Reading expires this summer and he has decided to move to Stamford Bridge.

"We are close to a new deal" - Hans Robben

The former Arsenal midfielder spent four years at Reading, but he hardly played towards the end of the Premiership season as manager Steve Coppell wanted to concentrate on the players who had pledged their future to the club.

Meanwhile, Arjen Robben is expected to sign a new deal with Chelsea.

His father and agent, Hans Robben, said: "We are close to a new deal. We have not agreed all the details, but I don't expect any big problems any more."

And Andriy Shevchenko's advisors have dismissed speculation linking the Ukraine captain with a return to AC Milan.

The Italian club have invited Shevchenko to the Champions League final against Liverpool in Athens.

But his management company WMG said: "Andriy is not in talks of any kind with AC Milan, he has a contract with Chelsea and that is the end of the matter.

"AC Milan have invited a whole host of former players to this showpiece match and Andriy is just one of those players. There is nothing else to it."
