Is Alonso heading back to Renault?

Fernando Alonso would be welcomed back to Renault by former team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella.

Alonso's fractured relationship with McLaren has led to rumours that he could leave his new team after just one season and return to the team that made him world champion in 2005 and 2006.

"Beating Ferrari on their home ground has got to be a huge blow to their whole team and that would make our team extremely happy" - Lewis Hamilton

Fisichella was Alonso's partner, helping Renault to back-to-back World Constructors' crowns as the Spaniard brought Michael Schumacher's dominance to an end, and would love to be reunited with him.

With Renault struggling since Alonso's departure, team boss Flavio Briatore, who is yet to name next year's line-up, could look to make changes.

Fisichella said ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix: "There is a lot of talk about Fernando returning. But he has a contract with McLaren and it's going to be difficult for him to get out of that.

"And I don't know if it is the right choice, considering the package of McLaren and the package of Renault. At the moment, for Renault it is a big step, so I don't know."

The 34-year-old Italian, who believes an announcement could be made by the end of next week's Belgian Grand Prix, added: "If Fernando does come back and I can run with him, then it is just great - unless I cannot race for Renault next year."
